Chitosan Wound Dressing

chitoderm is a new, bioactive medical device which can beneficially influence the tissue, and acute and chronic wounds of many different types and degrees of severity.
Treatment of:
- burns
- abrasions
- ulcus cruris
- decubitus
Effectiveness of chitoderm:
Hemostatic action: Property independent of the clotting factors but which is based on the interaction between chitosan on the one hand and the endothelium or the blood corpuscles on the other hand.
Anti-inflammatory action: Is initiated by the falling concentration of the inflammatory mediators (histamine, serotinin etc.).
Antibacterial action: Interaction between the positively charged amino groups of chitosan and the negative charges of the microbial cell members.
Absorption of excess blood/exudate: The excess exudate is removed, and the cellular activity and the growth factors for renewal of tissue are thereby supported.
Synthesis of connective tissue: Stimulation of fibroblast proliferation and modulation of neutrophils and macrophages.
